Firework Safety

Many families enjoy the 4th of July holiday with firework displays at their own home. Although they may be Beautiful, Fun and Exciting; they can also be dangerous, causing serious burns and injuries if handled incorrectly. The Galena Police Department would like to remind those setting off fireworks over the holiday to take the necessary steps and precautions to keep themselves and others safe.  Always be aware of the risks of accidents, personal injury and fires associated with the use of fireworks.

Click It or Ticket Enforcement Campaign Completed

During the Click It or Ticket Campaign just completed, The Galena Police Department conducted overtime saturation patrols to aggressively enforce Kansas occupant restraint, texting, impaired driving, and other traffic laws.  “During the campaign, Officers performed pro-active seatbelt enforcement patrols for a combined 19 hours of extra duty. Officers wrote a total of 43 citations to unrestrained drivers and passengers, 26 additional citations were issued for various infractions and misdemeanor offenses, to include driving without insurance and driving while suspended,” stated Corporal Blaine Cornelius.

According to Chief Billy Charles, “Stops and tickets are primarily meant to teach. If you were stopped, you, hopefully, learned from your experience.  If so, we have made the roads a little safer for you and those you share the road with.  We will continue to do that because, while the Click It or Ticket campaign may be over, traffic enforcement never is.”

Click It or Ticket was supported by a grant to the Galena Police Department from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
