Toys For Kids

On December 14, 2017 the Galena Police Department held its Annual Toys for Kids program at the Spring Grove School. Santa showed up and made sure each child enrolled in this school received a toy for Christmas.

For the past month we have been accepting donations for the annual Toys for Kids program. We would like to thank all the people who donated through the boot block held in November and the following local business that donated to make this program possible.

City of Galena is Accepting Sealed Bids

The City of Galena is accepting sealed bids for an Animal Control box. This is the box off of the old Chevy Animal Control Vehicle. The box measures: 68 ¼“ 96 3/8” at the top of the box. This box has 2 large animal compartments in the rear, and 2 smaller animal compartments on each side. It also has a tool/utility compartment that is accessible from both sides and extends all the way through.

This box is at the City Lot located at 12th and Wood Street in Galena. If you would like to look at it before bidding you can contact Public Works at (620) 783-1991.

The bids have to be sealed in an envelope and turned into the City Clerk’s office no later than 4:00 PM Friday September 1, 2017.

Boil Water Advisory Issued for City of Galena, Cherokee County

Topeka, Kansas. — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for a portion of the City of Galena public water supply located in Cherokee County. The affected area includes portions served north of 612 N. Jefferson St. South of 1709 N Columbus St. and 1602 N Wood St, East of 717 West Vine St. and West of 613 Jackson St. The area of service affected is known locally as Empire. KDHE officals issued the advisory because of a loss of pressure.

The advisory took effect on October 31, 2016, and will remain in effect until conditions which place the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be adequately resolved.

Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure. Regardless of whether it’s the supplier or KDHE that announces a boil water advisory, KDHE will issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.
