I became a Patrol Officer for Galena in September 2022. I graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in February 2023. Before I was an Officer, I worked in Dispatch for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. As much as i enjoyed my job as a 911 Dispatcher, I knew my heart was set on being on the other side of the radio. I have wanted to be in Law Enforcement as long as I can remember. I love following my childhood dreams and serving the City of Galena at the same time.
A Patrol Officer serves under the direction of the Lieutenant and Patrol Sergeant. Remains knowledgeable on policies and procedures and ensures that proper protocol is always followed. Investigate crimes and cause to be arrested persons involved in criminal activity. Respond to all calls in a timely and safe manner, without unnecessary delay, informing dispatch of any anticipated delay. Shall prioritize all calls received and handle those calls first which are of a more critical nature, as deemed appropriate.
Maintains vehicles and equipment as outlined in department policy and procedure, ensuring that the vehicle always has enough fuel and oil, and that all equipment necessary for safe operation is functional.
Patrols every area sections of the city of Galena, at least once during their shift. Respond as backup for all other law enforcement officers in the city of Galena in a safe and prudent manner.
Provide motorist assistance whenever possible, such as transporting to another location for fuel or parts, telephoning a second party, etc.… Checks on abandoned vehicles for the safety of potential occupants and the safety of other motorists. Serves arrest warrants whenever possible. Ensure that all investigations are completed in a timely manner and that reports are completed with accuracy and detail and within 24 hours or by the of the officer’s scheduled work week and reports to a supervisor any anticipated delay
Relays information to other officers which may be beneficial to their investigation. Reports immediately all information to dispatch which may be necessary for the safety of officers and citizens. Ensure that evidence is thoroughly collected and analyzed in all cases. Enforces traffic laws with compassion and understanding, letting common sense are a guiding factor in the issuance of citations for violations. It is the policy of this department to issue a citation only when it is believed that a warning will not suffice.
Shall investigate all vehicle accidents in a timely and professional manner, assisting other law enforcement agencies in the same whenever possible. Renders emergency first aid to any person whenever needed and possible.
Presents themselves in a neat and orderly manner at all times when at the Police Department, any crime or accident scene, or any public place while representing this department. This includes the proper maintenance of uniforms and accessories, vehicles and personal hygiene/grooming.
