Boil Water Advisory Issued for City of Galena, Cherokee Co.
TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for the City of Galena located in Cherokee County.
Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:

Water service has been shut off to the City of Galena due to a main water break. Please be patient with us as our Public Works Department is working to repair the leak as quickly as possible. Solid Waste workers are assisting with this leak so there will be a delay in your trash pick up.

The City of Galena would like to thank all the individuals and businesses that participated in our annual Trunk or Treat Event. They handed out candy to approximately 800 trick-or-treaters. The winners of the best decorated trunks were: 1st Place was “Pops Diner” from the show Riverdale, 2nd Place was “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and 3rd Place was the “CrEePy cemetery Truck.” The Trunk or Treat is open to all individuals and businesses to participate. The Galena Police Department is requesting help identifying the person this picture. He is believed to be connected in criminal damage to a vehicle and theft which occurred in Galena on October 16, 2018.
Galena Police Department and State Line Surgery Center Conducts Joint Training
The Galena Police Department recently partnered with Stateline Surgery Center in an endeavor to increase safety for their customers and employees through proactively examining their active threat protocols.

The Galena Police Department has received a medication disposal safe that can be used by its residence to dispose of any expired, unwanted and/or medication that is no longer needed. This safe is located in the lobby of the Municipal Building and can be used any time during normal business hours.
The medication disposal unit was provided by DCCCA, INC through the State Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis Initiative to provide a resource for safe disposal of medications to Cherokee County residents using MED Safe medication collection receptacles.
The State Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis Initiative is a federal grant awarded to the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). DCCCA is funded to identify and provide resources and support to identified high risk communities to implement medication disposal programs. This includes purchasing and facilitating the installment of Med Safe Receptacles and liners for the identified communities.
