The Governing Body is the policy-making body of the City of Galena and decides what programs and functions that City government provides, in addition to responsibilities set forth by Kansas Statutes.

City Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Galena City Council Chamber located at City Hall 211 W 7th St.

As we move into the summer months, property owners are reminded to keep lawns and lots properly maintained to help protect public health, safety, and neighborhood appearance.

DEFINITION OF WEEDS:
For enforcement purposes, “weeds” are defined as any of the following:

(a) Brush and woody vines shall be classified as weeds;
(b) Weeds and grasses which may attain such large growth as to become, when dry, a fire menace to adjacent improved property;
(c) Weeds which bear or may bear seeds of a downy or wingy nature;
(d) Weeds which are located in an area which harbors rats, insects, animals, reptiles, or any other creature which either may or does constitute a menace to health, public safety, or welfare;
(e) Weeds and grasses on or about residential property which, because of their height, have a blighting influence on the neighborhood. Any such weeds and indigenous grasses shall be presumed to be blighting if they exceed 12 inches in height.

Please ensure your property remains in compliance by regularly mowing and maintaining vegetation throughout the season.

Failure to comply may result in notices, abatement, and associated costs being assessed to the property owner.

The City would like to inform all utility customers of an upcoming transition to a new Utility Billing software system. This upgrade is part of our ongoing effort to improve service, enhance account management features, and provide a more user-friendly online experience.

What to Expect:

• The new system is scheduled to go live in August 2026.
• All customers will have the option to create a new online account to access the updated system.
• Existing login credentials will not be transferred to the new platform.
• Customers currently enrolled in AutoPay will need to re-enroll once the new system is active.
• Online access to account history, billing, and payment options will be available through the new portal after registration.
• Printed and mailed bills will remain available for individuals who opt not to establish online access.

• There may be temporary interruptions to online payments and account access during the transition period.

Galena City Wide Yard Sales will be May 2, 2026. Permits can be purchased at the Galena City Clerks office for $5.00. All proceeds will benefit Galena Economic Development.
