This Thanksgiving Holiday, make sure to buckle up, Kansans. If you don’t make occupant protection a habit now start a new tradition!
Beginning Saturday, November 18th through Sunday, Nov 26th, 2023 The Galena Police Department will join many other law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, in the Kansas *THANKGIVING SAFE ARRIVAL traffic enforcement campaign. Although all Kansas Traffic Laws will be enforced, this extra provision will be actively enforcing our occupant protection laws.
The Galena Police Department will also provide education that serves as a reminder that BUCKLING UP SAVES LIVES.
Don’t be a turkey, buckle up, every trip, every time. Your friends and family are counting on you.

On November 26, 2021, members of the Galena Police Department, Galena Fire Department and the City Clerks office participated in a Boot Block at 7th and Main Street in Galena to raise money for the annual Toys for Kids program. During the Boot Block we were able to collect over $2900.00 for this program.
Members of the City Clerks office, the City Court, and the Public Works Department used this money to buy toys for the Toys for Kids Program.
On December 14, 2021, Santa visited the Spring Grove School to pass out toys for each child enrolled.
We would like to thank the community their support and donating to help make this another successful year for the program.
UPDATE!!!!
North Main in Galena will be closed from Front Street to Clark Street starting DECEMBER 7th at 7:00am through DECEMBER 9TH at 5:00pm. BNSF Railroad will be conducting Crossing Repairs during this time.
Please plan accordingly: There will be a DETOUR using Clark and Front Streets to bypass this work zone.
Beginning February 22 through March 5, The Galena Police Department will join other law enforcement agencies in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma with increased enforcement near high schools to raise awareness on roadway safety. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens (15-18 years old) in the United States – ahead of all other types of injury, disease or violence.
“Even one teen death is unacceptable, please slow down, put the phone away or turn it off, and always buckle up.”
Officers will issue citations to any individual who refuses to obey the traffic laws, whether it is for speeding, texting or failing to buckle up. Remind teens that driving is a privilege and encourage them to learn about the importance of driving safely.
The Galena Library Summer Program “Imagine Your Story” stopped by with bags of goodies for all the Police Department Staff today. They just wanted to show their appreciation for Law Enforcement and everything our officers do for the community.
Beginning on Monday, May 18th, and continuing through Sunday, May 31st , travelers can expect increased police presence as the Galena Police Department joins other law enforcement agencies in aggressively enforcing Kansas occupant restraint and other traffic laws as part of the 2020 Kansas Click It or Ticket campaign. This activity is supported by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). Enforcement will occur around the clock. Seatbelt use diminishes after nightfall, meaning the likelihood of unbelted crash injuries and deaths rise during those hours.
The aim of Click It or Ticket is simple: to effectively reduce the number of preventable deaths and injuries that occur when unbelted drivers and passengers are involved in traffic crashes. About 345 persons are involved in 170 crashes each day in Kansas. Only 7% of those that are unbelted are likely to escape without injury. Half of all fatalities occur among those who are not wearing a seat belt. While seat belts may not always prevent a serious or fatal injury, certainly no other piece of equipment within the vehicle provides more protection.
“I want people to know that, day or night, the Galena Police Department is committed to aggressively ticketing violators of adult seat belt and child safety laws, as well as other traffic infractions, which make the need for occupant restraint so necessary. The stop will be inconvenient, your vehicle and driver’s license numbers will likely be checked for outstanding warrants and insurance, and you will pay at least $30 to the court. So, use your belt, every trip, every time.”
***Stay safe.***
