Water Service/Solid Waste Pick Up

Water service has been shut off to the City of Galena due to a main water break. Please be patient with us as our Public Works Department is working to repair the leak as quickly as possible. Solid Waste workers are assisting with this leak so there will be a delay in your trash pick up.

Galena Police Department receives Medsafe medication disposal safe

The Galena Police Department has received a medication disposal safe that can be used by its residence to dispose of any expired, unwanted and/or medication that is no longer needed. This safe is located in the lobby of the Municipal Building and can be used any time during normal business hours.

The medication disposal unit was provided by DCCCA, INC through the State Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis Initiative to provide a resource for safe disposal of medications to Cherokee County residents using MED Safe medication collection receptacles.

The State Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis Initiative is a federal grant awarded to the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). DCCCA is funded to identify and provide resources and support to identified high risk communities to implement medication disposal programs. This includes purchasing and facilitating the installment of Med Safe Receptacles and liners for the identified communities.
