SPRING CITY WIDE CLEAN UP 5/4/2026-5/8/2026

City Wide Clean Ups are a *free* service to assist residents with removal of items that cannot be picked up with their regular weekly trash collection and/or are too difficult to haul away on their own. You must have a current City of Galena Utility Account to participate.

1). All items must be placed at the street side curb. The crew will not enter yards or alleys to pick up your items.

2). NO HOUSEHOLD/KITCHEN TRASH – if it can be taken with your usual weekly trash collection, that is how it needs to be disposed of.

3). ABSOLUTELY NO PILES OF CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS, SHINGLES, PAINT, CHEMICALS, LIQUIDS, CINDER BLOCKS, TIRES, ROCKS OR BOULDERS. We will not accept *whole house* cleanouts or remodel debris.

4). Any items that are left behind must be removed by the property owner.

5.) Items will only be picked up on your original trash day. 5/4/2026 to 5/8/2026

City Office/Solid Waste Weather Update

UPDATE 1/27/2026 Monday and Tuesday Solid Waste routes are running today Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

City offices will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, due to weather conditions. For utility emergencies, please contact Public Works at 620-783-1991 ext. 9.

Solid Waste routes will be delayed. Any additional updates will be posted on our city website and facebook page.

Christmas and New Years Office Hours and Solid Waste Schedule

City offices will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, December 26, in observance of Christmas.

Solid Waste collection for Wednesday through Friday routes will occur on Monday, December 29, and Tuesday, December 30, alongside the regularly scheduled Monday and Tuesday routes.

Additionally, city offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 31, and Thursday, January 1, for New Year’s celebrations.

Solid Waste collection for Wednesday and Thursday routes will take place on Friday, January 2, and Monday, January 5, along with the regularly scheduled Friday and Monday routes.

Solid Waste Overage Changes

The City Council has approved Resolution 24-23, which introduced an increase in solid waste overage rates. This change ensured the continued quality of waste collection services while addressing increasing operational costs. See Resolution attached for more details.

Recyle Bins are located behind the Galena Public Library at 210 W 7th Street and behind City Hall at 211 W 7th Street.

City Offices to be closed in Observance of Columbus Day

Please be advised that City offices will be closed on Monday, October 13, 2025 in observance of Columbus Day.

Please note that Solid Waste collection originally scheduled for Monday, October 13, will instead take place on Tuesday, October 14, alongside the regular Tuesday collection route.

Preparation for Winter Weather

In preparation for winter weather this week, we wanted to make citizens aware of some schedule modifications if the predictions really occur:

  1. All city offices are already scheduled to be closed tomorrow, February 17th, for President’s Day. 
  2. The regular council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 18th, will be postponed to a later date (and will be published when a new date has been set). 
  3. Mondays trash is scheduled to be picked up on Tuesday due to being closed for President’s Day. We may be delayed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays routes due to snow and below freezing temps. Worst case scenario, we will be caught up on all regular trash days next week. We will not be charging anyone for trash overages for next week or the following week.

All updates and modifications will be posted on the City website and Facebook page. Dispatch will run 24/7 regardless of weather. Again, this is solely in anticipation for severe winter weather. If we do not get what is predicted then it will be business as usual.

City offices closed for Thanksgiving

The city offices will be closed Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, 2024 for Thanksgiving.

Thursday Solid Waste Route will be picked up on Monday, December 2, 2024. Friday Solid Waste Route will be picked up on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

City offices will be closed on Monday, September 2nd for Labor Day.

City Council meeting will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 6:00 pm in the Galena City Council Chamber located at 211 W 7th.
